Many Sony console owners buy the Vita, PS3 or PS4 because of the PS Plus monthly deals that just aren't there with any other console (although I hear Xbox is catching up). The 1 month, 3 month or 1 year subscription includes a set of games you can download for free every month you have the subscription amongst other perks like higher discounts and free playable demos and trailers which normal users have to pay to get.
However, and this is from personal experience, What Sony doesn't make extremely clear to the gamers is that for different regions (Asia, UK, US etc.) there are different deals for the PS Plus. A UK subscriber might get Resogun on the PS4 while US subscribers get Outlast for PS4. And I have to say, out of all the regions, Asia probably has the least favorable deals to offer.
So why is the Asian PS Plus deals so dissapointing? Well, for starters, most of the fun RPGs that Playstation fans have come to love are all in Japanese. A lot of people who get the PS Plus don't get the subscription because they want ALL the games, rather, they buy the subscription because there's 1 or 2 games in particular that they really wanted to play. PS Plus instant game collection, Asia, February 2014 |
In this February's Asia PS Plus deal, it's true that subscribers get more games for free than the UK subscribers but does that really matter when said games are PC ports like Limbo, Guacamelee! and Outlast? Not to say that those games are terrible but still. If I wanted to play Limbo or Guacamelee! I could just play those games on my PC. But those are just the very minor issues that aren't really worth complaining about. The only game that I feel is worth playing in the Vita deals for Asia is the highly successful Disgaea 3... Which happens to be in Japanese only. What dissapoints me even more about the poor deals Asia is offering is that Sony is an Asian company , so to speak, but why is it that the European and American PS Plus deals are better than Asia's? I know that the Asian PS Plus can do much better than this.
PS3 Deals, February 2014, UK Region |
Don't get me wrong though, In no way am I saying that Asia PS Plus is horrible and that all the games are cheap PC ports. I'm simply saying that the UK and US deals are better than Asia and I think many Asian PS Plus subscribers can agree with me when I say this. The UK PS Plus for PS3 shows better games than Asia deals across the board.
PS3 PS Plus deals for February: Asia vs. UK (I'm only counting the PS3 only titles, PSN titles like Guacamelee! that are available for other platforms like PC aren't included in the list. Japanese version-only games aren't included as well.)
Asian PS Plus :
- Ace Combat Assault Horizon
- Bioshock 2
- Borderlands 2
- Galaga Legions
UK PS Plus :
- Metro: Last Light
- Bioshock Infinite
- Uncharted 3
- XCOM: Enemy Unknown
- Borderlands 2
- Little Big Planet: Karting
If we compare the PS3 games only between the 2 regions. It's obvious who the real winner is. The UK deals come out tirumphant with more triple A titles like Metro: Last Light and Uncharted 3. The fact that Bioshock 2 just came out free for Asia and Bioshock Infinite is free for UK just shows the difference between the 2 regions. In fact, this list between the 2 regions is probably the epitome of this entire article. And don't even get me started on the Vita games.
After writing this somewhat long article, you might be wanting to subscribe to other country's PS Plus. I hope that someone thinking about subscribing to Asian PS Plus stumbles upon this post to see that there are better deals out there.
